Revolver 4

Revolver 4 is part of a series of sculptures inspired by the official, continuous profile portrait of Mussolini by Renato Bertelli (1933). It is one of a number of works exploring the politics of power represented by the bust as well as the artist’s fascination with very slow, predictable, kinetic sculpture. Revolver 4 consists of a box filled with 11 kilos of petroleum jelly of two colours which are slowly moved, shaped and mixed by a steel paddle in the shape of a human head’s profile at approximately one revolution per minute.
